Day 1: Nairobi - Lake Nakuru.  

Pick up from your hotel. Depart Nairobi at 09:00am to Lake Nakuru National Park. Stop en-route at the Great Rift Valley view point for the stunning views. Arrive at Lake Nakuru in time for lunch at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru Lodge.  In the afternoon proceed on a game drive in this famous ornithological spectacle for flamingoes. Dinner and overnight at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru Lodge. Meal plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru - Nairobi.

Lake Naivasha safari 2 Days 1 night  Gate away:

The highest of the Great Rift Valley lakes and the second largest fresh water lake in Kenya is Lake Naivasha, which lies at about 1880 meters. The water levels of Lake Naivasha's have consderay dropped between the 1920's to the late 1990's by over 6 meters.

Few lakes have a more commanding or lovely setting than Lake Naivasha.

An ornithological paradise and home for hippopotamus, Lake Naivasha is also a birdwatchers fantasy. it is surrounded by Mount Longonot, a extinct volcano standing at 2,777 m of altitude. At Hell´s Gate gorge with its steam jets, and Fischer's Tower a pinnacle of soaring rock, game abounds and the rarest of Kenya's birds of prey, the Lammergeyer nest. There are over 450 species in the immediate area including the highland escarpments, which surround the lake to the south and west. Between October and  March, migrantng bird species generously supplement the resident bird population. On Lake Naivasha, pelicans and cormorants are numerically superior but pride of place must go to the African Fish Eagle whose haunting call remains as significant to lake visitors as does the roar of a lion in the parks.

Lake Naivasha unlike most fresh water lakes does not seem to have a visible outlet making many believe that there exist under passes that drain from the lake hence maintaining the flow of fresh water brought into the lake by the Gilgil and Malewa rivers in the north.

Lying about 100 kilometers from Nairobi Capital city of Kenya, Lake Naivasha is a recreational center for many Kenyans; there are a number of gateway's and areas of interests in and around the lake - a thriving yacht club,many private cabin cruises and other boats for fishing. Camping sites around the lake make it an ideal 1 day camping destination for many Kenyans.

Lake Bogoria

Lake Bogoria found in the Ngendelel escarpment of the Great Rift valley is sight in the wild to behold; the lake is set at the bottom of a trough at the base of the 600 meter high escarpment .

On the western shores of Lake Bogoria’s is a bed of hot water geysers or springs and blowholes, which sometimes erupts to hights between 2.5 to 3 meters (8 to 10 ft) into the air, and constantly emit a pungent sulfur smell. The water emitted is at boiling point and dangerously hot. This geothermal phenomena is intriguing. Wildlife here is rare lest for the Greater Kudu and Gazelle, Zebra, Baboons. A great place to take photo's evidencing the turmoil below the earths crust. The attraction of the lake apart from its scenic magnificence is the opportunity to see tens of thousands of flamingoes and a multitude of other water birds.

The soda waters of the lake attract massive flocks of Flamingo, and the lake is often carpeted with pink.
 

The 32 sq km lake is still volcanically active, Fresh water springs at the lake edge attract an abundance of birds and wildlife.

There are many Fish Eagles, which often prey on the local flamingos.
 

Lake Baringo

Like other Rift Valley lakes, Lake Baringo shares similar characteristics. Mirroring the surrounding Tugen Hills and the Laikipia Escarpment, the lake owes its chocolate color to the rivers that feeds it, all carrying plenty of silk topsoil.

Lake Baringo lies in the solitude of the semi-arid, a haven of peace and beauty in harsh, rugged but majestic surroundings. A bird lover's haven , lake Baringo's bird life is just amazing.

Hippos and the crocodiles share this watery residence along with tilapia mudfish, bass cat fish and an enormous variety of birds. A visit to lake Baringo is characterized by Mornings and evening bird walks led by the resident ornithologists, giving visitors the opportunity to see several magnificent birds of prey, noisy restless bush birds, and the numerous other species frequenting the shore. There are plenty of small-motorized boats available for hire, all captained by knowledgeable bird enthusiasts.

Lake Elementaita

Lake Elementaita is located on the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley and is a Soda Ash lake measuring about 18 sq km in size. It is home to tens of thousands of flamingoes. The lake is about 90 minute drive from Nairobi the capital city of Kenya, and about 40 km from Lake Naivasha.

The lake like other Rift Valley lakes supports a large variety of bird life including the Great White Pelicans and Great Crested Grebe. Wildlife such as zebra, gazelle, eland and families of warthog can be found here. A visit to Lake Elementaita, will include horse ridding, bird viewing and visit to the natural warm spa that flows into the lake.

Lake Magadi

At only two hours drive from Nairobi and located in the heart of Maasai land in the southern Rift Valley is lake Magadi. Magadi in Swahili language means Soda Ash or Sodium Carbonate.

This Lake is rarely visited by tourists because it is located in a remote area of Kenyan near the border with Tanzania. Magadi is one of the hottest and driest place in Kenya. The lake is pinkish and mirror-like.

Taking a  one-day excursion from Nairobi to Lake Magadi is a nice  experience to see how a semi-solid soda lake looks like. The landscape, the wonderful colors of its soda water and for the birdlife are also a great sight.

Lake Magadi is excavated by a multi national company which exports the Soda Bicarbonate.

Lake Turkana

Lake Turkana is situated in the Great Rift Valley in the northwestern part of Kenya. 

Lake Turkana is in an arid and hot area. The area in and around the lake receives a mean annual rainfall of less than 250 mm. Rainfall is very erratic and unpredictable. The temperature ranges between 19 deg C at night to 40 deg C during the day. The lake is exposed to frequent strong winds a strong source for wind energy.

The lake draws its water from its main tributary the River Omo originating from Ethiopian highlands and contributes more than 90% of the total water influx. Other rivers are temporary, flooding only during the sporadic rains.

Lake Turkana is a closed lake and has no water outlet. Water is mainly lost from the lake by evaporation. The water level of this closed basin lake is determined by the balance between the influx from rivers and groundwater and the evaporation from the lake surface. Therefore the water level is sensitive to climatic variations, and subject to marked seasonal fluctuations as well as to long-term periodical changes.
